Scoliosis.
Pronounced: Skoh-lee-oh-sis. 
Meaning: Originates from the Greek word “Skoliosis” which means bending.
What is it? A condition to the spine in which it bends abnormally left or right. 

I’m not going to try to be perfect because there’s no use trying to be when I’m about 100 miles away from being anywhere close to it. 
I have my flaws but I love them. 
I have uneven hips and uneven shoulders and a curve that pushes my ribcage out. Sometimes I lean more to the right instead of standing up straight. 
Sometimes I get horrible back pain that trails to my hips and I find it hard to stand or walk or sit. 
My back is numb from the surgery. 
When people budge me or push me or kick a ball into my back I freak out in fear that the rods will break. 

I don’t know if I’ll ever need surgery again - it’s unpredictable but a major part of my future.

My scar trails from the top of my neck to about three quarters of the way down my back and no not everyone likes the look of it - in fact a lot of people hate me for having it. 
I’m not going to force you to look at it - what right do i have to do that? But if people ask I’m going to show it off and explain my story because it’s something to be proud of and its something that I managed to accomplish and get through and defeat. 

So after 6 hours of surgery on February 21st 2011 this is who i am now.
Pretty much your average teenage girl but with a little difference. 
I have this amazing scar and inside of me 2 titanium rods, 13 titanium screws and that 1 titanium connector. 

What I had to go through…what other Scoliosis kids had to go through…we couldn’t have predicted any of this happening.
One moment we was ordinary kids and then just out of nowhere the universe gave us this like…amazingly scary difference and made us completely different to other kids. 
But without it I don’t believe I would be who I am now i don’t think any Scoliosis kid would.

So this scar?
Its beautiful.
Maybe not the person wearing it but the scar and what it represents - that’s beautiful.

She’s not beautiful but she’s a survivor ♥

He also has severe scoliosis, and is living proof that body type and genetic conditions are no excuses to keep you from reaching your goals.
